Man rescued from home following arson attack at Rushden Church |
||
|
We are appealing for witnesses following an arson attack in Rushden which severely damaged part of a property attached to St Peter's Church at Hayway Rushden Two fire crews initially attended the blaze, which started between 03:30-03:45 on Sunday Morning 22nd February 20026. A man had to be rescued from the top floor of the property and was treated at the scene for the effects of smoke inhalation. Police and Fire and Rescue Services attended the incident at about 04:00 hours when it became apparent the blaze had been started deliberately. The severely damaged extension to the property is adjacent to Rowan Gate East Primary School on Hayway but the school was unaffected by the fire. Detectives are treating the incident as arson with intent to endanger life. We are appealing for witnesses as well as anyone who might have CCTV or dashcam footage showing persons out on foot in the area between 03:00 - 04:00 hours which could assist our enquiries. We firmly believe this fire was started deliberately and but for an early report and the prompt attendance of the Emergency Services it would have been a very much more serious incident. Patrols have been stepped up in the area and we would urge anyone with information or CCTV footage to contact Northamptonshire Police on 101, quoting the Crime Reference Number 26000104928.
