Stay Safe from Courier & Telephone Fraud – Important Advice

Dear Resident,

We’re reaching out from Northamptonshire Police with an important safety reminder for everyone and especially our respectable residents aged 70 and over.

Why this matters:
Courier and telephone fraud is on the rise. Criminals often target older residents, pretending to be from your bank or the police. Victims can lose thousands of pounds—sometimes their life savings.

How the scam works

You receive a call claiming there’s a problem with your account or a police investigation.

You’re asked to withdraw cash, hand over your bank card and PIN, or buy valuables “for safekeeping.”

A “courier” arrives to collect them—but it’s all part of the scam.

Protect yourself

✔ Hang up immediately if someone asks for your card, PIN, or cash.
✔ Never give personal or financial details over the phone to unexpected callers.
✔Use trusted numbers from your bank card or official statements to check.
✔Remember: Genuine banks and police will never ask you to hand over money or cards.
