Corby boy sentenced after admitting offences relating to anti-social behaviourA Corby teenager has been given a six-month referral order after admitting offences linked to anti-social behaviour in the town. The now 14-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons due to his age, appeared before magistrates in Wellingborough on March 18 where he admitted offences including arson, criminal damage and assault. He was sentenced to a six-month referral order with the Northamptonshire Youth Offending Panel and ordered to pay a total of £1,350 compensation. The eight offences the boy admitted were: Criminal damage to a coffee shop in Queen’s Square on September 12 Using threatening/abusive/insulting words/behaviour with intent to cause fear of/provoke unlawful violence in relation to an incident in New Post Office Square on September 14 Arson in relation to an incident involving an electrical box in Willow Place on October 10 Criminal damage in relation to an incident at a business in George Street on December 4 Assault by beating in relation to an incident in Queen’s Square on December 10 Criminal damage in relation to an incident at a school in Southbrook on February 8 Criminal damage in relation to an incident at Kingswood Community Centre on February 12 – a charge of burglary at the same premises was withdrawn Criminal damage to a fence in Corby on February 26 Speaking afterwards, Neighbourhood Policing Sergeant Keely Cox said: “We remain committed to preventing anti-social behaviour in our town and bringing those responsible to justice. “While criminalising children is a last resort, where offenders have failed to engage with other measures to address anti-social and criminal behaviour, we will seek charges as this reflects the serious impact such behaviour has on business owners, shoppers and residents. “Thanks to increased reporting from the public we have a comprehensive plan in place to address and prevent further issues. Corby is a great town and we are working hard to make sure it stays that way.” Officers from the Corby Neighbourhood Policing Team continue to work with partners and businesses to reduce and prevent anti-social behaviour in the town, with investigations ongoing into reported incidents.
